H2C

Wow! What an experience this was. Molly has run it a few times and said it was awesome. I was reluctant to believe her. I mean how fun can it be to run 197 miles with a team, non-stop, running through the middle of the night, and having to each run three times! No way, I say! But, she was right. The excitement of meeting new people, the energy of all the crazed people around you, the humorously decorated vans, and all the laughs that are shared on NO SLEEP, made this relay run one of the craziest, most absurd, most fun, things I have ever done!

Here we are, the entire team, the morning of the race, getting organized and saying our good-byes!

Here is van 1, our van, at the top of Mt. Hood waiting for our official start time. I can't describe how beautiful it was up there! Mike and Julie are good friends from Boise. There's me and Bob. Danieal and Greg live in Washington and are brother and sister. They were friends with others in Van 2, but we decided to have them in our van since we were all newbies and totally clueless about the race. That ended up being a fantastic idea. Although we missed our other Boise clan, Danieal and Greg were awesome. We would not have made it without them, no kidding! The six of us clicked immediately and quickly became a little family!

My butt pants came in handy when decorating our van. The other back door said, "Smack our" and had an arrow pointing to the bum pants. So, many times were were startled when someone would run by and smack the back of our van! We also hung Christmas lights all over the van. It was awesome at night! And we're off! Mike was our first runner. This was his very first race ever. He was so excited. You can see it in his face. I love this pic. It exemplifies how all of us were pumped for the race! After each runner took off, we would drive a little way and then get out and wait for them. We were all about cheering on our runner, giving them water, gum, moral support, hugs, whatever they needed, we were there for each other!

Here's Julie handing off the baton bracelet to Robert. Here's me running into an exchange to give Greg the baton.
Julie is waiting to give Greg water. Check out the gigantic tree trunk she is standing next to. The scenery was picturesque!
I love this pic. of Danieal and Greg. He walked along side of her briefly giving her water and motivation! Bob and I chillin...waiting for our runner to come by!

Check out the Star Wars van. Now these party-animal dudes really went all out!

Here's an exchange our first day with Mt. Hood in the background.
We slept in a field.....well some of us. I stayed in the van! It is actually a funny story. I went to the bathroom and Robert laid out our bags. I came back, he was asleep, and I didn't want to sleep outside. It was too cold. Julie welcomed it because she is tall and wanted to stretch her legs. So, we traded spots. Robert woke up in the morning and rolled over to talk to me. There was Julie sleeping next to him! We made jokes all day about him knowing it was her but snuggling up to her anyway and trying to get some action!
They were filming a Hood to Coast documentary. It comes out in 2009. It will be fun to see. Hopefully, we'll see our van, some of our runners, or something!
Check out the lines to the "honey buckets!" That's Robert and Greg at the back of the line.

We would eat out of the van. Danieal was our official stat keeper. We had to keep track of every one's times, splits, etc.
Robert taking off for a run!
Julie just finishing her run!

And then we were done......We finished at SeaSide. We were able to take a hot shower at the local middle school and then head down to the beach to wait for our team to finish. It was so beautiful!
The party was incredible. There was so much free stuff, good food, music, and I even had a massage! Boy were we excited to see these guys! We finished, we made it, and we were still smiling!

Here's all of the Boise gang who traveled over together. Bec and Jeff are our good friends who roped us in to this race. We're glad they did though. We really did have a great experience. We stopped at a few sites along the way home, for potty breaks, and food, and potty breaks (Mike!), and food....ya, it took us a long time to get home, but we enjoyed the ride! You know what they say is true....good friends, good times!

So, the experience is over. It was a long time training, planning, and stressing, but it was all worth it. Would we do it again next year.......You better believe it!

Friday's Funny

So, we went to Oregon and ran our big 197 mile relay race. It was an awesome experience. I will post pics. and journal about it later. Anyway, when our team met up the first morning, Sid jumped out of the van sporting these socks. He is a former bishop and the last person I would expect to wear these lovelies! However, he said his son gave him them for his birthday and he was wearing them with pride (a big, fat grin on his face!) I have never seen anything like them and got a kick out of Sid and his socks, so I decided to post them for Friday's Funny! Oh, and Robert's birthday is coming up real soon. If you have been wondering what to get him..... DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

Sucked In

Yup, just like millions of others, I am totally sucked in to the Twilight series. I hate to admit it, but it is true. I started book three last night. I think Robert will be happy when I have finished the series. He is tired of seeing my face in a book!

Roaring Springs

Our Tuesdays this summer were spent with the Toolson's at Roaring Springs. It was so fun meeting their cute little family each week for fun in the sun. Karrie and I had our hands full. We each have three little ones, but somehow (together) we survived the water park. We actually had a lot of fun and had some good, gal time too. We would get into so many serious chats that we came up with a little motto, "What is said at the water park, stays at the water park!"

Here's their cute family meeting us right at opening of the park for the best spots in the kiddie area!Tanner, our neighbor comes with us sometimes too. He and the girls love the drop off ride. The gang in the kiddie area.
We pack our own lunches from home each time and eat out on the picnic tables just outside the park.

Ethan and his sister usually come with us too.
Owen and Avery love the Lazy River and the Wave Pool! You should see Kerri and I get all our kids in the river, some in tubes, some hanging on to us, holding others.....it is quite the adventure!
Wow! Look at the glamour shots!
Avery.....loves the water!
Owen steering the big ship!
......and swimming like a little fish! playing with the tubes....screaming down fast slides.....

racing down the giant, yellow slide

And Payton's favorite part....holding little, Katelyn!

Robert calls Roaring Springs...Boring Springs, but we love it! Me and the kids have a ball and have enjoyed it even more with buddies like the Toolsons.

H2C

Hood to Coast........here we come! Yesterday Robert and I did our last long run. We took the kids to Clint and Amy's and ran on the green belt down by their house. Wow! What a different run that is than pounding the hot pavement around our neighborhood. It is so beautiful down there by the river. It is shaded and cool. We saw two, large bucks on the river as well. Robert was pretty excited about that. Our 7 mile run went by quickly.

Tonight the team from Boise will meet at our house for dessert and planning for our big trip. We leave Thursday and head to Portland. I am nervous and excited. The run is going to be tough, but fun too. It will be nice to have an adult weekend and time with just Robert, but I know I am going to really miss my kids too. It will be a busy week getting ready to go. Mikkel, Robert's sister is coming to stay and take care of the kids. I am so grateful for her. She is the "fun" aunt and my kids are so excited to have her come.

Here's a video clip of the race we will be doing Friday and Sat.! Watching it will either motivate you to want to run a relay too, or make you think those who do are absolutely insane! I think it's a little bit of both!

Robert and I try to include our kids in our training as much as we can. We take them for runs with us (one of us riding the bike with the trailer attached) or take them to the track with us. They have a lot of fun playing at the track while mom and dad run.

Payton snapping pics. of her nerdy parents.

Here's our water girl. She puts water bottles in her stroller and follows us for nice, water breaks.

Owen, always mimicking dad.

Robert and I were running around the track while the kids were yelling, "Go mom and dad!" It was so cute, but a little embarrassing too!

Of course, Avery sprinted around the track with Steal, her beloved stick horse!

So, 5 more days and it's race time.......Yikes!

Friday's Funny

Check out Owen's face in the last pic. It cracks me up so much that I had to post if for Friday's Funny. I got out of the shower to hear some major ruckus downstairs. I came down to witness the McBride kid's rock band. They were hilarious. Look how intense their faces are. I had to snap some photos. Hey, rock stars......thanks for making me laugh. You make Friday funny!
